ORION - Music of the City

July 2008 - musical/performative project accomplished in cooperation with Wilde Rose e.V. from Hamburg.

"Orion - music of the city" is the very first performance of Willem Schulz's piece (father of the composer was born and grew up in Szczecin), as - an outdoor musical event. The undertaking is inspired by a discovery made by Małgorzata and Edward Gardasiewicz of an analogy between the location of radial squares and three stars in the constellation of Orion.

Willem Schulz: Is the arrangement of three central squares a reflection of 'Orion's belt'? Some suspect that 19th century builders were inspired by the image of the sky, just as the Egyptian pyramids in Giza. Stars are individual entities built into stellar ensembles traveling across the sky. But looking from a distance, we create new connotations - stars are arranged in images to which we assign names and meanings, as they touch something in ourselves and reverberate in our mind, although they do not need to have anything in common with our concepts.

"Orion - 'music of the city" is an artistic reflection of this principle: musicians, unusual and creating new situations, walk through the middle of Grunwaldzki Square, going around one another, approaching and receding, making unusual sounds in various places of the square, they attract one another, meet and repel one another. Viewers may use the sounds and images to compose their own images, relations and stories, depending on what is perceived and in what light they have seen them. In this way, the chaos of infinitive possibilities will freeze in a wondrous interaction. And the seeming conductor, as if in a state of weightlessness, may succumb to the rhythm of clouds drifting in the sky.
