Year of independant culture. The underground.

The "Year of independant culture" is a initiative of the Institute of National Memory, which aims to work as a reminder of the unusual struggle of the Polish people for their independence, fought with the weapons of different forms of social activities. One of those phenomenons of the years of oppression is the underground-press. In conspiracy, in constant fear for their own life, more than 6thousand not-registered newspapers and magazines were published by courageous men and women. We claim that all those forgotten printers, editors, intermediaries should be honoured and may brought back into the public memory. That is why the IPN (Institue of National Memory) in Szczecin is organising this series of events which will be inaugurated on the 20th of october at 9am in the Kana Theatre. In the program there will be: a school theatre spectalce, performed by the pupils of II LO, open debates with scientists and experts of the polish press as well as an exhibition.
