Program
"Geist" is the last performance on which Zygmunt Duczyński (founder and director of Kana Theatre, died on 15th of march in 2006) was working. It was finished by the ensemble of the Kana Theatre in cooperation with Arkadiusz Buszko.
The spectacle is based on motives from the play "Adam Geist", written by one of the most important german playwrights, Dea Loher. Adam Geist, the plays protagonist, is "infected" by blameless sin and wanders around in search of his identity, while comminting unconsciously further crimes. The performance can be looked at as a question of the opacity of humans destiny, of the eternal fall of mankind. Still, the performance is not kept within this dark aura - the unexpected turns of action contribute for good to paradoxal comic elemts and to a atmosphere of rather bitter humor.
It turned out, that the work on this spectacle should be our last meeting with Zygmunt and with the themes, questions and images, that were important for him. As well as with some of the people, that Zygmunt met throughout this spectacle, whom he got to know, or even helped to find an approach towards ones own emotions. What then happened on stage was not only the result of the actors work. It was also, or maybe even in the first place, the result of our common discussions, and even of the silence spent together. The result of the sincere admission of ones own powerlessness. The result of the search for what is in touch with our most present time. For a long time, we had to think about if to finish this work without Zygmunt. Of course there were many doubts. Thats why we took our time and tried again to listen more into this spectacle. So then we tried to keep, what Zygmunt wanted to touch - knowing at the same time, that we could not simply copy his language. We rather had to find our own answers to the questions, that Zygmunt asked us. To find our own questions, finally. Every performance of "Geist" ist thus for us a meeting. A meeting to us important but not easy. And still we know we have to take it.

The performance has won the audience´s award at the XVI Alternative Theatre Meeting KLAMRA 2008 in Torun.
