10th Festival - CULTURE BONDS

2 - 4 JULY, 2009

The city encodes in itself a secret, pre-established plan. There are parallel spaces in it, that make is doubt in tangible structure of matter. Here the delicate inner processes take place between the existing and the potential - the interferences determining tangent points, fields of tensions, opposite vectors and lines of returns.

We would like this year edition of the festival, growing into the urban tissue for ten years, to be an attempt to create an image of such throbbing topography -heterogeneous and poly-semantic narrative about the city. Thus big amount of actions sometimes located in seemingly surprising spaces; thus geographic scope - including Niebuszewo, on the left bank of the Odra, and still intriguing Łasztownia Isle on the right bank and the very river sewing both sides together with irregular stitch; thus attempts of seeking the urban axis, not dividing but unifying the city orienting the space according to itself.

We are interested in the city as a certain complex yet cohesive organism, not limited solely to a street, being its most external expression. We are intrigued by traces, fingerprints and relations between cultural, social and architectural phenomena - how they intermingle, how they influence each other - micro-events, interactions taking place in presentable squares as well as at homes, in workshops and small abandoned backyards. All hidden links and bonds...

Thus, accomplishing the idea expressed also by the name of the festival, in the space defined in such a way we try to present - besides large-scale theatrical actions and outdoor performances - some activated demanding almost intimate proximity, and besides avant-garde concerts - some ethic and ritual music, theme workshops allowing direct contact with a performer, and some project balancing of the verge of various directions.

Art is supposed to be also a pretext and an artist to be a catalyst evoking or showing the relations in a given place and time - a catalyst being a subject of changes itself...
