6th INTERNATIONAL STREET ARTISTS' FESTIVAL

6th - 9th JULY, 2005

So, again we invite everybody to a holiday, for a time of carnival, parties, meetings. This year we propose somehow a different festival's formula: we start Wednesday evening inaugurating Festival with an outdoor concert of classical music in a place of a former Szczecin's Concert House, from which now there are only remains of the staircase left... This is the continuation of our idea of "calling up Spirits of this City".

On Thursday there will be a performance, which one should not miss: "Time Out" of German "Antagon" Theatre. Acrobatics on stilts, burning constructions, giant drums, rhythm, movement, dance, live modern music, age-old ritual of a man struggling with Time. A concert of Szczecin's group "Relanium" will support this event. And after the spectacle, these who stand the evening, will sit on grass, in front of Kana Theatre's building, and enjoy night film-music cinema.

Friday will be a day for listening to silence, to music, to movement, to picture. First, on a stage of Modern Theatre, Double Edge Theatre from United States will show a performance. Their spectacle "the UnPOSSESSED" is a poetic adaptation of don Quixote, fusing magic, circus, movement and word (the spectacle will be repeated on Saturday). On The Kana's Stage and on the lawn outside the Kana Theatre the artistic representation of Finland will perform: "The Incomplete Man" performance of Yrjänä Saros and Tuomo Dahlbom and performance "Finnish Christmas Sauna" prepared by Seppo Renvall. Later on, in the Big Yard we will explore theatrical dimension of movement, dance and gesture, in a spectacle prepared by artists from "Kinosfera 2" The marvel atmosphere of the evening will be provided by four Meta-Physicians, the klezmer "Mini Orkiestra" from Toruń. And after the concert: "Fiesta" - a wandering performance of Italian Due Mondi Theatre - at sounds of live music, with artists, dressed up in strange masks and costumes, will take us through a burlesque story inspired by Gabriel Garcia Marquez's prose and will transform streets of homesteads lying at the foot of a castle into unreal, magic, South American carnival's scenery. At the end: Paul Brody and Sadawi - a band leaded by an outstanding American trumpeter, who melts creativity and music imagination with klezmer tradition, in a unique way.

On Saturday morning the artists from the Norwegian Stella Polaris Theatre will conduct a workshop with very young Szczecin's actors (age: up to 10 years old), creating a common performance, in which all the participants will be active. During the afternoon you will see buskers : jugglers, clowns, musicians performing - street artists amusing audience of any age. And for "alternative" audience: a concert of hip-hop music and a performance prepared by youth from Monar Center (continuation of "Gobbling of Art"), experimental sound researches of artists connected with Swedish Fylkingen center and art installation of WSSU students. On the stage of Modern Theatre: again "the UnPOSSESSED" by actors from beyond the ocean.

The evening part of the final day will start with a stilts' parade and - traditionally - drum's madness by "Sambal" band, and afterwards: spectacles and concerts, that may turn into a dance party until dawn. Theatrical events of the evening: Spectacle "Arkan." of Derevo Theatre - a famous Russian-German group, settled in Dresden, that uniquely combines elements of clown play, improvisation, Japanese butoh dance and their own methods of work with body and movement on a stage (worked out during many years of theatrical researches); Puppets' Clinic - a team known by its' master animation with huge puppets and masks, and by their lively musicality; Stella Polaris Theatre with "Ship of Fools" - a group of 25 people from Norway, fond of color, dance and music, will present a picturesque performance, inspired by the work of Hieronymus Bosch. The improvised night music-dance party will be hosted by Jacek Hałas - one of the most multi-talented artists, searching for traditional source of sound, rhythm, melody, movement - common practicing music.
